What is COMPASS?

When you think of a COMPASS, what comes to mind? It’s probably that device that helps you determine your direction, or helps point the way. That’s a helpful picture, yet for us with COMPASS: A Roadmap to Healthy Living, the compass is something inside of you.

This is the first of many blogs that I’ll be preparing for COMPASS. It’s our welcome to COMPASS, and to our invitation to you to start, continue, or enhance YOU taking greater charge of your own life. Our vision is that COMPASS can be helpful to you in the process of discovering your direction, changing your direction, enhancing your path, and more.

On this website, you can learn more about COMPASS, and much of that will unfold with these blogs and with your engagement with COMPASS. Here are a couple of quick comments. First, COMPASS was developed at Mason for Mason students; it was initially launched a decade ago, and has just been revamped with the help of a dedicated undergraduate student. Second, COMPASS is all about you, and helping you to do better at whatever it is that you seek. It is not designed to direct you, but rather to connect you to lots of resources and insights. It can help you through the collective wisdom of many others. It does this through connecting you! Finally, COMPASS is all about your initiative. It is based on you taking charge, and you deciding what you want to address (or not).

Through our blogs and tweets, we’ll try to remind you or various things going on in the Mason community; we’ll seek to inspire you to greater heights and stronger decisions. We’ll connect you with ideas and resources, and we’ll provide conceptual and content links with current news on campus, locally, nationally, and internationally.

We welcome your comments and questions; we relish your suggestions for improvement. We look forward to an enjoyable and productive journey together.
